The Awakening is a novel written by Kate Chopin in the late 1800s. During this time women were often oppressed and were expect to conform, which is plainly what the novels main character, Edna Pontellier, did until she experienced an awakening and abandoned her Creole morals. ahead her awakening, however, Edna behaved exactly how a woman in Lousiana in the 1800s was anticipate to. When Edna returns home from her vaction, she begins to neglect her husband and her children. She befriends twain women, one of whom Robert writes to occasionaly. Edna begins to reduce the customs of the Creole society, which makes her husband very upset and he attempts to hide her behavior from their friends. Edna has an affair and moves out of her hus! bands house.
